Making it Through

I always feel a sense of accomplishment on Sundays when I clip out of my pedals after finishing my ride which would indicate that I also finished my long run and swim for the day and all that after a 3-4 hour traning stint on Saturday. And Monday is my day off training. And I'm not even training for a full IM event this summer. I shudder to think what that's like...

This morning O and I started off bright and early to get our 1:55 run in before church. I was dismayed to wake up to more snow and a windchill of 15 but I keep telling myself that it's almost over. Spring will come soon. And if I have to grin and bear it until then, well I guess that's just what I'm going to have to do.

We took Roxy on our run for the first hour or so and then stopped by the house to drop her off and take a Gu. And then we continued on our merry way to finish the last hour of the run. I actually felt pretty good. I feel like I'm finally starting to notice a difference in my pace (read, I can run at a more decent clip) while still maintaining my HR in the desired zone. I'm not always slowing myself down and that's a good feeling!

After the run and church I came home and took a nap. Sleep is quite possibly my favorite thing to do although eating is up there too. :)

I hit up the pool next:

3000 yds total @YMCA
wu: 600 easy, 8x75 w/30 sec rest as 50 free/25 stroke
ms: 1x400 w/1 min rest (5:22), 4x100 w/15 sec rest (1:18, 1:19, 1:18, 1:18), 1x300 w/45 sec rest (4:00), 3x100 w/15 sec rest (1:19, 1:19, 1:18), 1x200 w/30 sec rest (2:38), 2x100 w/15 sec rest (1:17, 1:18)

I always think I'm going to feel worse than I do on these Sunday swims. Swimming must just use totally different muscles than running, that's all I have to say. It's also possible that I am completely dragging my legs and my arms are doing 100% of the work which is essentially what happens in a wetsuit legal triathlon anyway. :) Regardless, I was pleased with this workout. 1:20/100 yds for the longer stuff is feeling just peachy.

Finally I came home, parked my trainer and bike in front of the tv and rode easy (spinning in small chain ring only) for 60 minutes. When I first started my legs were not happy with me but they adjusted (they had no choice in the matter really) and I survived.

And that's that! Another 4 hours of training in the books. About 17 hours total this week. I will sleep well tonight!
