The Master Mix
I'm currently listening to my newly created playlist on my iPod entitled "The Master Mix". The volume is turned up as high as my computer will allow. There's no doubt I've suffered hearing loss from my many years of listening to music way too loudly (especially in the car).
Regardless, said master mix includes quite an interesting array of musicians including (but not limited to):
All Together Separate (1 song)
Bloc Party (4 songs)
Bruce Hornsby and The Range (1 song)
Daniel Bedingfield (1 song)
Dave Matthews Band (1 song)
Jeremy Camp (1 song)
KT Tunstall (1 song)
LeAnn Rimes (1 song)
Linkin Park (1 song)
Marc Cohn (1 song)
Oasis (1 song)
Sanctus Real (1 song)
Sarah McLachlan (2 songs)
Snow Patrol (1 song)
The Fray (1 song)
Third Day (1 song)
Yanni (1 song)
Varying interests for sure. If you can guess what the one Dave Matthews Band song is, you get a very special prize.
Anyway, I have today off work and that resulted in me getting a delightful 8 hours and 40 minutes of sleep. It is amazing how much better I feel when I get a good amount of sleep. I've really been working on getting at least 7 hours a night (with more on the weekends) but that's not always easy since I get up at 4:30-4:45 am on weekdays that I work. Clearly the only solution is to quit my job. I see no other way out!
Regardless, I started the morning with a swim workout:
3000 yds total @YMCA
wu: 250 easy, 6x75 w/first 50 easy, next 25 fast w/15 sec rest
ms: 8x150 w/1 min rest where first 100 fast w/10 sec rest, 50 easy - (1:18.9, 1:17.0, 1:16.1, 1:14.6, 1:14.2, 1:13.2, 1:12.5, 1:12.0 for the 100s), 600 pull (9:55), 10x50 alternating rest of 5 sec and 30 sec (all between :37-:39)
I felt good about this workout. Any time I can get down under 1:15 for repeat 100s I'm happy (although today's 100s had a boat load of rest so I should have been able to do it no problem!). I'm getting better with the pull buoy too. I still don't like it, but I'm slowly losing my utter hatred of it. :)
I got home around 9 am, changed clothes, dried my hair some, played with Roxy, read email and then around 9:30 decided I needed to get my butt out the door for my run. It snowed last night and it was about 20 degrees w/a 10 degree windchill when I ran. Let me just say, Mother Nature and I are not on speaking terms right now.
Anyway, the run was a very easy 35 minutes with 5x10 second pickups. My calves have been sore for about a week now, but otherwise I felt good.
As for tomorrow's race, I was doing some thinking regarding goals. It's very hard to tell what I may be capable of given the fact that I haven't done any hard running and in fact have been running easier than I have in a longgggggg time. I think my strategy will be to start with 7 minute pace and see how that feels. The race is 10 miles and will have rolling hills (but is mostly flat). The low overnight is 7 degrees so it may be quite chilly. I guess we shall see!
Have a great weekend everyone!

The first Dave Matthews song that popped into my head was "Crash", but there definitely isn't any significance to the title or song. So, I scoured through my Dave Matthews collection, but nothing is jumping out at me. I'm just not good at this game. Do tell soon. In the meantime, good luck in your race. I know you'll do well!

I don't think you picked this Dave Mathews song but it's my favorite song so I am going to announce it on your blog anyway: Best of What's Around.
YEAH!!! Good luck at your race tomorrow!!

I vote for Two Step. It is my favorite DMB song and it is great for workouts.
Good luck this weekend!!!!
