Still Cold

Unfortunately when I woke up this morning I was still in Pittsburgh and not in Austin (and no, I'm not letting the Austin thing go any time soon...:) It was 5 degrees with a -7 windchill. Seriously people. I cannot stand this much longer! And the sad thing is the fact that there is no end in sight - the 10 day forecast calls for much of the same - highs in the teens, lows in the single digits and windchills in the negatives.

But perhaps what's even more sad is the fact that I think I'm getting used to this awful weather! Today O and I looked at the temps, started putting on all the layers, went out and ran, and I can't even say I was that cold (except for when that evil wind kicked up). This is weather I do not want to get used to! But alas, I've complained long enough. I'll save my other weather complaints for tomorrow, and Tuesday, and Wednesday, and... :)

Anyway, today I partook in three of my favorite activities - running, swimming and cycling. First up was the run, a 1:35 long run, staying within the 133-153 HR range. It was a good run, felt fine, wasn't too cold unless the wind was acting up, etc... I really don't have a great feel for what kind of pace I'm running to keep my HR low but I'm guessing around 8-8:15. When the snow finally melts and the track is clear, I'll check out my pace for sure.

I had to go into work for a couple hours after which I drove straight to the YMCA for my swim:

2500 yds total

wu: 200 easy
ms: 3x(300 pull w/20 sec rest, 3x150 w/30 sec rest) - 5:08, 2:00, 1:59, 1:58, 5:02, 2:00, 1:58, 1:58, 5:02, 1:59, 1:57, 1:58
cd: 50 easy

I felt good in the water today. My arms are definitely feeling all the work done with the pull buoy - much more with my new coach than with my old, but all in all a good swim. It was a mad house again which actually doesn't bother me that much. I did swim into a small floating dolphin though, which apparently migrated over from the "open swim" area. :)

After the swim I drove home and hopped on my bike for an hour easy ride. It was all spinning in my small chain ring but my legs were feeling the day's efforts so it wasn't a total cake walk. I was glad to get through the bike workout and finish a good day's training. I will sleep well tonight!

Week review:
Monday - off
Tuesday - 2000 yd swim in am, 1 hour run and 1 hour tempo bike in pm, 2x25 pushups, 2x100 crunchers
Wednesday - 3000 yd swim in am, 30 min easy run and lifting session in pm
Thursday - 1:30 bike in am, 50 min tempo run in pm
Friday - 2500 yd swim and lifting session in am
Saturday - 2:30 bike in am, core/feet exercises
Sunday - 1:35 run in am, 2500 yd swim and 1 hour bike in pm

This new schedule doesn't go by hours per se but if added up this week's training was around 14 hours or so. I'm getting used to the new coaching plan and liking it a lot. In some ways I feel like I've taken a few steps back because the biking and especially the running is at a lower intensity. But now that I can see my schedule up until April, I know the speed (and even higher volume) will be coming soon! To that I say - bring it on!

Good night everyone!
