In Like a Lamb

March seems to be coming in like a lamb - it was 40 degrees today! It's supposed to be 50 degrees tomorrow! And let me tell you...it better be going out like a lamb too. Or else! (I know, very convincing threat... :)

This morning I woke up, drove to the YMCA and went for a swim. Very original 'eh?

AM swim workout:

3500 yds total
wu: 200 yds easy, 12x50 w/20 sec rest (4xbreast, 4xback, 4xfree)
ms: 5x500 (UGH!) w/45 sec rest where 2x500 straight swim (6:51, 6:45), 2x500 pull broken at 250s for 20 sec (4:06, 4:05, 4:04, 4:05) and 1x500 swim broken at 100s for 10 sec (1:20, 1:20, 1:19, 1:18, 1:18)
cd: 200 easy

I was hurtin' today in the water! My arms were protesting. I know it's the longer intervals. 500s are quickly becoming my favorite kind of intervals - NOT! :) Although I was looking a little ahead on my schedule and I noticed a workout that involved 800 repeats. That will make those 500s seem like a mere sprint! :)

After work I came home and got changed and went out (IN SHORTS!) for an easy 30 minute jaunt around town. I was a little on the cold side but it was worth it just to feel air on my legs again! After the run I headed to the YMCA for a lifting session (now up to 2 sets of 15) where my arms continued to protest. They are just not pleased with me today! Good thing they will have a day off tomorrow with no swimming, lifting, pushups, etc...

In other news I recently ordered The Stick and it came today! I absolutely love it. I've always used a foam roller to massage rough areas out but I think The Stick is going to be more effective. I already went to town on my hamstrings and calves. Roxy seems to think that The Stick is Her Stick and that it should be thrown to her so she can fetch it. That is precisely why it's sitting on top of a very high shelf. :)

Regardless I have been working really hard at paying attention to the details of taking care of my body. I've always been good at that but through the years with work and life in general getting in the way I let some bad habits sneak back into the picture. Sleep is number one on my list. I can't get 9 hours/night like I used to in high school but I've been really trying to get at least 7-7.5/night with more on the weekends. Nutrition and hydration is high on the list too. Stretching is on the list but it never left the list so I'm good there (I am a stretching fiend!). And finally massage has moved up in priority, hence The Stick and a monthly massage appointment (to begin in March!). I'm giving my body the love - so it better give some of it back to me come racing time! :)

Good night all!
