Swim, Lift, Run
As you can see from my title, I'm feeling overly creative tonight. :) Although I'm never creative so I'm not sure why I expect anything different at times. In fact just today my co-worker and I were discussing how we are very much the worker bees when it comes to projects - not the masterminds behind the projects. That's okay for me though and indeed I very much prefer it that way. And now I've gone so far off the topic of this blog, I'm thinking I'm going to have trouble finding my way back... :)
AM swim workout:
2800 yds total (800 yds warmup) @YMCA
4x100 @ T-pace (1:20-1:21) w/10 sec rest:
(1:18.1, 1:20,2, 1:17.7, 1:18.6)
30 sec rest
4x100 w/10 sec rest:
(1:17.7, 1:17.8, 1:17.2, 1:17.5)
30 sec rest
4x100 w/10 sec rest:
(1:16.7, 1:17.1, 1:17.5, 1:15.9)
30 sec rest
CD: 500 steady (6:54), 6x50 kick
All the 100s were supposed to be at that same T-pace (1:20-1:21) but without putting in more effort I just naturally start to swim faster towards the ends of workouts. Unless the workout gets too long and the fatigue sets in. Regardless, I did this same workout last week and swam just about the same times except for a slightly faster first set this morning. I felt pretty good although the pool was very busy this morning and quite wavey. Several times I got that "open water" swimming feel - like when you go to take a breathe and you're smacked in the face with water instead of open air. :)
Directly after the swim I lifted and then headed home to get ready for work. Because of the lifting I didn't leave for work until quite late in the morning at which point I made a discovery. There are not one but TWO ways to avoid bad rush hour traffic on Route 28 into Pittsburgh. Choice A is to leave Natrona Heights REALLY early (read 5:45 am) OR choice B is to leave Natrona Heights REALLY late (read 8:40 am). Either way works wonderfully. What doesn't work is leaving Natrona Heights at 7 or 7:30 am. That, my friends, is bad juju.
Once at work I was lucky to have a large chunk of my day that I could dedicate to finishing that chapter of the book that I've been supposedly working on since September of 2006. And I actually finished the dang thing (only the first version...I'm sure there will be many to come) and turned it into the editors 5 (yes FIVE!) days early! It's a thing of beauty really. I'm so glad to cross that task off my list I can't even tell you. So very glad until I get it back and it's all ripped up and I have to start over again. But I've learned not to take it personal. Really, they don't hate ME, they just hate my writing. :)
Alas, I'm off topic again!
After work I headed to the shop where I did a run, stretched and then went to pilates class. The run was most excellent - 45 minutes with a stop in the middle for 8x20 second striders. I was really surprised by how good my legs felt. Not that I expected them to feel badly, I just didn't expect them to feel so good. Regardless the reason, I'm not complaining. I take what I can get.
And so goes the story of my day. Tomorrow I'm not going to swim in the morning and I will repeatedly have to tell myself that when I wake up so I don't find myself (in a state of severe sleepiness) in my car, in a bathing suit, headed towards the YMCA. Sounds crazy, but very likely to happen... :)
