Derailed
So my foot has been hurting and I think I'm finally ready to accept the fact that indeed, it hurts. Not my PF - that has been feeling great, but rather the tendon that runs on top of my foot from the big toe back. Bah.
For the past couple weeks my feet have been giving me troubles - little aches here and there that never really turned into anything but that annoyed me. This new tendon thing however, is not something I want to mess with. I had a nasty case of tendonitis in that same area in college that took forever to go away. I have been feeling it a little here and there but after my run on Saturday it was pretty sore. And then again yesterday. And then again today. Doesn't hurt to walk around without shoes but if I put on my running shoes - ouch.
I haven't decided the best course of action to take just yet although it might involve substituting my actual runs outside with pool running for a bit. Just what I need - more chlorine. :) We'll see though. I didn't have a run planned for today so it wasn't a big deal but tomorrow morning I was going to run. For now, I'll just take it a day at a time. I knew it was inevitable that something would start to act up - I just need to take care of it and do the right thing and hopefully all will be well again in the world of Beth.
Moving along, I have the day off work (my real job that is) but decided to go down to the masters swim anyway. I really like swimming with that group and in that pool.
AM swim workout:
3800 yds total w/1000 yds warmup, 200 yds cooldown
600, 500, 400, 300, 200, 100 all w/1 minute rest swam at a descending pace. I was having trouble keeping track of my times for everything but I know the 300 was 4:03, the 200 was 2:38 and the 100 was 1:15. Good workout. I like distance days.
After that main set was done my lane buddy talked me into doing a kicking set (or whatever they call it) so we did 10x50 kick on 1 minute.
After the pool I went over to the weight room and did about 35 minutes (including warmup and cooldown) of plyometrics - jumping rope, 2 legged hopping, skips, etc...
And that's it for the day! It's another 15 hour week this week but spread over 6 days and with more bike volume (which seems to be the easiest way to add volume) so it doesn't seem as tough as last week.
Now I'm headed to the shop where I will work for the day since someone else that works there needed to be off. Working at the shop really isn't like working though so I don't mind a bit.
But before I go - I ask you all one favor: GOOD FOOT VIBES! Heal foot, heal! Which brings me to my "little thing" for the day that I would like to recognize. How nice are the little comments you get on your blog? Don't they just make you smile (or laugh) and think how neat it is that even though you don't know "these people" that read your blog and comment, you sort of feel like you do know them. And they are all very nice people that you just know you would be friends with had you met in person. Pretty cool this "little" community of bloggers. Pretty darn cool.

I am sending tons of good vibes to your feet, I hope they will be feeling great soon!!
And I agree on both your little happy things. There is nothing like a long, hot shower after a long, cold run! And of course our community of bloggers rocks :)

Add me to the list of sending good foot vibes... sending foot vibes your way right now!
I say nip this one in the bud as fast as you can! Antiinflammatories, ice, heat, taping, and rest, whatever you need to do, right now.
Thinking of you!

Maybe you should run on your toes.

Beth, will do some asking with my two physiotherapists. I have had minor issues with that area of my right foot both when I ran with shoes and now that i mostly run without. In fact, at first impression I recall having soreness from even only walking long distances. Where exactly does the pain start and where does it "end"? Could the cold have something to do with it? What happens when you tweak the foot to check on its range of motion?
Most importantly, do you have a team physiotherapist, osteopath, physician, orthpaedic doctor, whoever, in any case someone who knows what they are talking about and who can help? With the kind of pro training loads you have, you might benefit from regular post-training "re-adjustment" sessions.... Anyway, will let you know what I find out. Be patient and strong. This sounds like an ordinary problem, not to be under-estimated, of rapid resolutiuon... Re Good Vibes: You and O listen to the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations"... it is a ton of fun...

with much benefit of doubt... obviously impossible to do more without direct contact, ... but first impressions would seem to indicate contact/pressure of shoe on your upper foot near the toe area. Should not be anything related to loads, speed or movement.
The solution could be as simple a lacing shoes a little looser, wider or more flexible shoes... investigate, you'll solve it! :) bests corrado
