December Indeed

So the first day of December brought winter like weather. Bummer. I was totally loving our 60 degree temps in late November. And it was still in the 60s this morning when I woke up and headed out to the pool. I thought to myself - "I should be doing my run now", knowing full well that this afternoon/evening when I did do my run it would be considerably colder. And indeed it was in the upper 30s with a windchill in the 20s by 5 pm. But I've resigned myself to the fact that winter is here and the snow is coming and the colder temps are staying and that's just that. Get used to it. As O would say "it is what it is."

I completed the trifecta today:

AM swim workout:
2600 yds total @YMCA (900 yds warmup, 300 yds cooldown)
2x500 yds (6:48, 6:47)
1x400 yds moderate kick (6:25)
everything had a 1 minute rest

After swimming faster, shorter stuff all week those 500s felt like an eternity. But I did them and it was all good.

PM cycling workout:
I headed to the shop after work and did a lactate threshold test on the CompuTrainer. There is actually a CompuTrainer challenge of sorts wherein you download different rides and a group of people that signed up to do the challenge all ride these different rides and then your results are posted and there is a "winner" for each ride, etc... Kind of hard to explain but a pretty neat idea that will help with cycling motivation. Running on a treadmill is worse, but cycling on a trainer is not far behind.

ANYWAY, I warmed up for 25 minutes and then did this 11.19 mile course as a lactate threshold test. That took me 31:20 of (somewhat) hard riding. I wasn't going all out crazy but my heart rate was definitely higher than if I had just been spinning easy. I cooled down for a couple minutes to make the whole workout 60 minutes.

Then I headed home for my PM run workout:
It felt positively frigid outside by the time I got home. And I wasn't entirely thrilled about doing my run since it was cold, it was extremely windy, I was hungry, I was tired and sitting on the couch seemed like such a better option. But O was nice enough to join me and so I changed clothes and we got on our way. It was an easy 50 minute run with 5x20 second striders thrown in. The wind was crazy bad but it wasn't really that cold (given the correct apparel). We survived. I felt pretty good. It ended a nice day of training.

Tomorrow is Saturday! That makes me so happy. Our ride tomorrow is going to be brutal - it's supposed to be in the 20s tomorrow morning. But in a weird sort of way I'm looking forward to it. We'll see what I'm saying tomorrow when I can't feel my body. :)
