20x100 on 1:30

So I have today off work and let me tell you, that is a very delightful thing! The most delightful thing about it is the sleep factor. 8 hours last night. That, my friends, is money!

Once I got my lazy butt out of bed I made my way to the YMCA for my swim workout this morning. I love the YMCA people. They all know each other and I know them all from their different habits. There's the guy that always asks me how many laps I've swam (seriously dude, I have no freaking idea!); the woman that always wants the outside lane so she can float on her back and hold her hand on the wall; the guy that refuses to share a lane with anyone; the woman that mostly just does pull-ups on the starting blocks in the deep end. I could go on forever! They're great though. Fancy gyms are nice because they have lots of good equipment but you really can't beat the good old YMCA.

Anyway, I digress...

AM swim workout:

4000 yds total at YMCA (1000 yds warmup, 1000 yds cooldown)
20x100 on 1:30

Simple as that! I have to admit, the workout wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. I just kept clicking them off - all in about 1:18-1:20 so I had at least 10 seconds rest. The challenging part was really mentally thinking "oh man...I still have 12 to go?" but physically I was fine. That's encouraging. I've come a far way for sure. It wasn't long ago that I was doing my 100s on 2 minutes.

That said, I have a long way yet to go! I still want to be able to do 20x100 on 1:20 and doing today's workout showed me, I am not ready for that! I could maybe squeak out 20x100 on 1:25 with some company in Pitt's pool, but on 1:20? That's rough. I'm just going to keep chopping wood though, keep working at it and then one day I will be there.

Regardless, I got my 15,000 yds in for the week, 15,400 yds to be exact! It was a good goal for me this week - kept me motivated in the water. Not sure what I'll aim for next week. Maybe I'll focus on cycling instead.

In other news, the lifeguard that was on this morning is the one that always listens to Christmas songs on the radio. Normally I tune them out but when I was cooling down I heard The Chipmunk Christmas Song for the first time in about 10 years. That song is MONEY! I remember having the record of that song when I was little. That's right - I said RECORD! My favorite part is when one of them says "me, I want a hula hoop!" Gotta love those chipmunks.

Anyway, I still need to lift today. I briefly considered just staying at the YMCA and lifting right after I swam but breakfast sounded like a much better option. Plus, my arms need a rest. I'll just go back later today and get 'er done. And that will be my workouts for the day. Unless you include cleaning the house as a workout. Given the relatively dirtiness of our house at this point in time, I might just include it in my training hours this week. :)

Have a great day everyone and a great start to your weekends!
