Two Down, One to Go
I'll tell you - life is good today. I have the day off work, my first since going casual and I couldn't be happier. I think working 4 days a week (at my real job) is going to be just perfect for me this winter. It gives me one day to catch up on sleep, on laundry, on homework, on playing with Roxy, on cleaning, on email, on life in general. Life will still be busy, which is the way I like it, but not disasterously busy. :)
I have two workouts done for the day, one (a 55 minute run on trails) to go. This morning I slept in until about 6:50 and then got up to go to the pool.
3200 yds total (400 yds warmup, 800 yds cooldown)
4x500 w/45 seconds rest (to be done in 6:55) - 6:58, 6:48, 6:45, 6:46
If the workout looks familiar it's because I did the same thing Wednesday. I won't lie, I wasn't looking forward to it this morning, but once I got going it was fine and actually felt easier than Wednesday. I will be excited to do something other than 500s on my next swim! :)
After the pool I did my plyometric workout which took about 30 minutes - rope jumping, one and two legged hopping, skipping. Try hopping on one leg for height, 30 times. It's hard and makes your leg tired. Trust me. :) After the plyo stuff I jogged (very) easily in the gym at the YMCA for 10 minutes to cooldown.
In a couple hours a 55 minute run which I'm very much looking forward to. It's cold but otherwise a beautiful fall day.
Random thoughts for the day:
1) O tutors a friend who in turn pays him by baking "us" cookies. Okay, the cookies may be for O but I eat them too. Well apparentely so does Roxy. When I got back from the pool this morning the plate of cookies (sans cookies of course) was on the kitchen floor. At least she cleaned up all the crumbs too. :)
2) I got a call from a telemarketer this morning who started off by asking if my mom or dad was home. I kind of chuckled; briefly thought of a smart retort but then decided on answering her by saying "nope." Got her off the phone anyway. :)
3) I signed up for two more races for next season. The NYC tri and the Philadelphia tri both opened registration November 1. It's crazy that you have to sign up for these races so early but they sell out within a couple weeks. It got me SOOOO excited for next season. I have 4 races definitely planned out (Columbia, Eagleman, Philly and NYC) but there will obviously be others as well. Chicago? LA? We shall see.
4) I finally got my What It Takes DVD in the mail Monday. I've watched it about 2.5 times already. I can't get enough. It's a documentary about 4 professional athletes and the year leading up to the 2005 Ironman World Championships. I love it, love it, love it! If anything the thing you take home from it is the fact that they are incredible athletes, they train incredibly hard but they are human beings too. They have feelings, are low on motivation sometimes, are disappointed and get frustrated. They have their highs and lows. It's so cool. Did you know the average pro Ironman athlete runs 60-70 miles/week, cycles 300 miles/week and swims 30,000 meters/week? It's okay, I almost threw up too when I heard that.
Regardless, I must get back to "work". Hope everyone has a super day!

... i suppose if there was a tetrathon where the fourth event was post-race-'n-training blogging, you'd win hands down Beth... :)

I would *totally* win that event. The time I lost in the swim would easily be made up in my blogging speed. :)
I guess you can tell what I enjoy in my life - training and then blogging about that training. The laundry on the other hand, has become quite unruly. :)

I wish I had a job that I only had to work 4 days a week (without having to work 10-hours days). It too bad the govt.'s not as flexible.
