Catching Up
Back in the saddle today!
I woke up this morning to 50 degree temps. Can't complain about that at 4:45 am in mid-November! Today's training called for 45 minutes easy, zone 1 running. Recovery day I suppose. Although this was a bit of a recovery week so the workout fit right in with the theme.
I felt good on the run this morning. It was peaceful out. And running in the dark is kind of fun. I definitely took it easy though. My HR monitor let me know when to back off.
Catching up with yesterday's workouts - I had a swim and plyo workout in the morning and then a trainer ride with intervals in the evening (movie nite that turned into watching ESPN on the tv instead).
The swim was very easy - only 1550 yds total with the main set being 3x(200 yds @ T-pace, 50 yds kick easy). My 200 T pace would be 2:46 but I hit 2:45, 2:40 and 2:39. When I was done I felt like I needed to do much more, but again, recovery week calls for less volume. When I'm getting killed next week (as is my suspicion) I'll be glad to be feeling fresh from this week!
After the swim I hit the plyo workout - jumping, skipping, hopping, etc... That stuff really is hard. Try jumping rope on one leg for any length of time. Trust me when I say - you get real tired, real fast!
I didn't feel like movie night after the funeral but I knew it would help. I felt like crap when I showed up, my head ached from all the crying and I felt worn out and very tired. But I'm glad I went and I'm glad I did the workout because I felt tons better when I was done. I spent 1:15 on the trainer - including 3 sets of 3x20 seconds all out (1 min rests) followed by 5 minutes in HR zone 5 (=VERY hard) w/8 minutes easy before starting the next set. It was a tough workout - especially those 5 minute pieces but as the workout progressed I felt better and better.
Alas, it will soon be time for class. The very exciting news about class is that (1) our professor isn't going to make us take a final and (2) besides 2 article write-ups and one presentation I have no more work in there! I love it when I can count on one hand the amount of things I have left to do for a class. AND we don't have that many classes left to attend. See, life isn't so bad afterall... :)
