Pilates is Money!

Today on the training schedule? 1:45 worth of cycling and an hour of pilates. I knew the cycling would more than likely be on the trainer inside. It was supposed to rain all day long and indeed, it rained all day long. All stupid day long. Oh well. Worse things have happened.

Because I no longer own a bike of my very own (my Fuji sold on eBay to someone in Canada!) I have to go to the shop to ride all the time. "My" bikes stay there - the BMC road bike and then the BMC time machine tri bike. I heart BMCs if you can't tell. Me and Floyd Landis. :)

ANYWAY - I don't mind riding the trainer at the shop because there is a big screen tv at the shop. Much better than riding the trainer at home in front of our little tv. So I did my 1:45 ride on the trainer while I watched re-runs of Home Improvement and then ESPN. I was just supposed to ride in my small chain, spinning at a high cadence which is exactly what I did. I don't have a cadence meter thing but I tried to make sure I kept the turnover high. Afterwards my butt was really sore so I bought my very first pair of cycling shorts. Up until this point I always just wore tri shorts which have a much smaller padding. Riding on the trainer is brutal though - not as much standing up and getting out of the saddle like when you are riding on the roads. No stopping at traffic lights and whatnot. That and the weight I've lost from training has left me with what feels like the boniest butt ever. I might have to get one of those huge banana seat saddles for my BMC. Now that would be sweet. :)

After my ride and a hot shower I headed over to this gym (that is incidentally owned by my coach's wife) that is basically next to the shop for my first pilates class. I really didn't know what to expect but pilates was *really* cool. I highly recommend it for runners or triathletes or any kind of endurance athlete. Major core building my friends. Major. As in my abs are already sore. It's exactly what I need because I know my weak core has contributed to more than one of the many injuries I've suffered through. That and it was kind of relaxing - not hard core, all out exercise like we are all used to. The instructor was all soothing and stuff. :)

Regardless I have homework to do and my swimming wake up call is going to be coming real soon. One of these days I'm actually going to do my homework ahead of time so I don't have to stress the day before it's due. I swear. :)
