Movie Nite
Tonight was movie night at the shop. Everyone brings their bikes and their trainers, sets up and we all watch a movie on the big screen tv while we ride. Fun stuff. Tonight's showing was Reservoir Dogs. I can't say I'm a huge Quentin Tarantino fan - I don't think I've ever watched Pulp Fiction the whole way through - but I didn't mind watching this one tonight. Given the crew of cyclists on the team and the fact that I'm one of about 2 women, I'm guessing we won't be watching any "chick flicks" during movie nite any time soon. I'm thinking a lot of violence or stupid humor will fill my Wednesday nights for a long time to come...
Regardless, I rode for 1:30 total. Lots of easy spinning - I only spent about 25 minutes in my big chain! That was the goal tonight, keep the heart rate low.
Backing up some to this morning, I did a swim workout at the YMCA before work. It was a tough one. I made it up myself which tends to be a bad thing. I write it down on paper and I think "that won't be that hard" and then I start the workout and think "who the heck wrote this workout?!?!" :) I survived though.
3200 yds total (500 yds warmup, 700 yds cooldown)
10x200 alternating them on 3:15 and 3:00.
Now, I swam the first 300 in 2:56 at which point I realized that I was really going to need to step it up. It's no fun to only get 4 seconds rest on hard intervals. I settled into a nice rhythm though and pretty consistently did the rest of the 200s in 2:45 and therefore got more like 15-30 seconds rest. Much better. It was a hard workout but I felt strong throughout.
Unfortunately my little experiment in which I didn't take my Celebrex didn't work so well. I shouldn't have really tried that on a day when I swam. I'm not sure if it was the hard swimming, the lack of Celebrex or the pushups that I did last night but my shoulder was none too pleased with me this afternoon. It didn't hurt when I swam this morning but starting aching again around lunch time. I took some more Celebrex before movie nite and now my shoulder feels good again. That stuff is more powerful that I thought. (and let me clarify, I asked my doc about taking it because I vaguely remember the controversy surrounding Vioxx some time ago - Celebrex is in the same class of drugs)
Regardless I'm not sure what I'm going to do about my swim tomorrow. I guess we'll see how it feels in the morning. Actually, it will probably be good because I took the wonder drug. Maybe I should swim and then it will have a 3 day break (Fri-Sun). Maybe I shouldn't swim and give it an even longer break? Such a conundrum! I'm sure I'll figure it out - and probably still do the wrong thing anyway. I wouldn't be an athlete otherwise right?! :) Good night everyone!

"I'm hungry. Let's get a taco."
Hope the shoulder gets better.

Oh come on Beth, fight the tyranny of democracy! At least once a month ask the boys for a movie of your choice. If they are true athletes, they will enjoying being true gentlemen...
