Early Morning Running
I used to run in the early am all the time and loved it. Haven't done it for a while until this morning. Here are a few things about early morning running that I forgot:
1) running in the dark makes you feel like you are running faster than you probably really are - not such a bad thing if you know what I mean
2) it's annoying to press the light on your watch all the time to see what your HR is doing or how long you've been running and my HR monitor watch doesn't have a function where the light will just stay on
3) best of all - I forgot how peaceful it is to run before everyone else is even up. Running at it's best, where you can truly be alone with your thoughts and the day isn't old enough yet to have it's new worries. Helps me to remember why I fell in love with running in the first place.
It was a great morning to run. Luckily it didn't get that cold last night so I could still wear shorts. I cannot wear tights yet. Just can't do it. I was supposed to run 45 minutes on a hilly course easy, but I was allowed to let my HR rise up into zone 3 on the uphills. I did just that but in an effort to get one more big hill in I had to extend the run to 50 minutes. Good stuff.
That's it for me for the day. I have class tonight. Tomorrow a swim and another run. Saturday the team ride which is also serving as a memorial ride for our teammate that passed away about a month ago. His family and friends will be there. A great way to honor a great guy.
