Fall Indeed

Back in the day when I used to go to work (yes, that's right - I have ANOTHER day off today!) I had a discussion with my co-workers about when fall starts. Of course there is the objective day that fall "technically" starts (Sept 23rd this year?) but I mean when does fall really start. Some suggested when the leaves start to change, some said when you have to start wearing jeans instead of shorts. Some offered the idea that October = fall. But I submit to you my theory...and that's the theory that fall is starting right NOW. After my run this morning I couldn't be any more sure that my theory is true.

Evidence #1 - Today I went for my run at 11:10 am. This is not something one does in the summer unless one has no other choice. Granted I wore shorts and a sports bra however I wasn't hot. There was no humidity. It was around 70 degrees. It was the middle of the day. That, my friends, is fall.

Evidence #2 - I ran past the HS track and (1) saw the football team practicing, (2) heard the cheerleaders doing their thing and (3) heard the band. That, my friends, is fall.

Evidence #3 - O went to work today. He is a teacher. That, my friends, is fall.

Evidence #4, 5 and 6 - I've now read about 5 college cross country team previews. The Steelers have played twice. We may finally turn off our AC. That, my friends, is fall.

And I couldn't be more excited. I love fall. And although fall doesn't have any of the same meaning to me as it once did (a new school year, a fresh cross country season, etc...) I still get the same "feeling in the air" when fall rolls around. I wonder if that will ever stop. I'm guessing not.

Anyway, today I ran easy, 45 minutes, trying to keep my heart rate down. I felt like I was jogging (which isn't a bad thing) but when I did a lap on the track to check my pace it was about 7:30. That isn't my definition of jogging. Regardless I felt okay, legs a bit fatigued but otherwise good. That's it for today.

In other news, I'm fairly certain that I could live off of Lime Tostito Tortilla Chips. They are so dang good! I would need to take a multivitamin (you know...so I didn't get scurvy and whatnot) but otherwise I think I would be good to go.

In other, other news, my arm is finally starting to become a normal size again. I got bit by a very bad bug on Friday and my arm swelled up like a balloon. Must have been a bee because I'm allergic to those suckers. It actually hurt pretty bad but I don't need my left forearm for too much so it wasn't bad. I've gotten stung on my ankles before and that was bad juju because they were so swollen I couldn't get running shoes on! Anyway, I was wearing my watch on about the 5th hole instead of my usual very top hole (and it's still too big) but now I'm up to about the 2nd hole. My arm no longer feels like it's been in the oven (it was so hot before!) and it's not too itchy either. I think I'm on the road to recovery.

And now that I've successfully procrastinated writing the paper I need to write for a good 30 minutes, I think I should get a move on... Or maybe I might go get some more Lime Tostitos first? :)

If they really have lime in them, you wouldn't get scurvy; limes are what British sailers used to prevent scurvy. (Shouldn't you know this?!?) Of course, maybe they are just "lime-flavored" or something. Now beri-beri... I don't know if you'd get it from just eating tortilla chips, but I like to say it anyway.

My newest addiction is Lance's Smokehouse Cheddar crackers. We drive to a grocery store 25 minutes away, instead of the one 10 minutes away, because the closer one doesn't have the smokehouse cheddars.

I am so jealous!! It is going to be in the 90s here for the next week. This is why I need to move to the Northeast :)

Have a great week!!! I love reading about your training. It is very inspirational.
