Tasty Wabbit
The lifeguard at the pool this morning was telling me how she works at an animal shelter and that she always ends up taking various hamsters, rabbits, ferrets and the like home because the shelter can't keep them but she doesn't want to see them euthanized. I would probably do the same thing. I might not take the ferrets, mostly because I don't really know what a ferret is and it seems like a non-friendly critter. But I do think I would give the rabbits a home. Anyway, she told me that she brought home one rabbit that was really mean and so she advertised for anyone to take it for free. She then told me that she was almost positive that the people that took said rabbit had planned on eating it. Umm...what's up with that? Is it just me or does that seem like a really odd thing to do? Can you really eat a rabbit? Does it taste like chicken? Do you grill it or fry it? I had lots of questions but none that she seemed to be able to answer. Perhaps some things are left better unknown... :)
Anyway, I did a swim workout this morning before work.
400 yd easy, 200 yd kick easy, 200 yd easy
3x400 on 4
4x150 on 3
5x100 on 2 and...can you guess? notice any trends?
6x50 on 1
200 yd kick easy
That was 3000 yds, 2000 yds hard. I did my last 200 in 2:57 and was feeling great. Then, about halfway through the 150s, I realized I had a long way to go and I was getting *really* tired, *really* quickly. I survived though, and overall it was a good workout. My only complaint is that I wore my evil goggles and the rings around my eyes didn't disappear until about 2 hours after I was done swimming!
Now I'm waiting for O to get home so we can have some dinner. And I'm fighting desperately the urge to lay down on the couch with Roxy and take a nap. But then again, I don't have ANY homework to do (WOOOOO-HOOOOO) so why not?! :)

Eat the bunny, how sad. Beth, I think you have been living near all those hunters and people who hang bambis in their yard for too long. And I don't know about being mean critters but I do know that ferrets have a vey funky odor to them. I will stick to dogs!

When I was an undergrad, the people who lived in the apartment above me had a ferret. I know this, because one night my neighbor came down to let me know that his ferret had "gotten loose in his apartment and he thought it was in the air conditioning ducts somewhere. And if I found it in my apartment, could I let him know?" Yeah, buddy, you'll know when you hear the blood-curdling screams.

Apparently rabbit is some kind of gourmet delicacy. An ex-boyfriend of mine had it at Le Bec Fin when we had dinner there. He's an ex partly for that reason...

Rabbit can be eaten, but isn't that just disturbing? I could never eat one, they are too cute.
And I think ferrets are cute too! I don't know if I'd want one as a pet though.
Sounds like a very tough swim workout! You are going to rock your tris this summer.

I am no big meat fan by any means, but rabbits are staple white meat on most restaurant/home lunch and dinner tables in Europe. Luckily, you don't see them alive before eating them. They are extrememly tasty. By the way, a visit in a slaughter does wonders to stimulate vegetarian instincts...
