A Longer Ride

O had a softball game tonight (first of the season) in Greensburg, where both he and I grew up. He still plays in the same league he always has, even though we live about 45 minutes (via car) away now. Regardless, at some point during the week I decided I was going to ride my bike to his game. It seems like it's really far away, but the truth is, it's only a little over 30 miles. And 30 miles on a bike is not much, so I determined it was something I could handle.

I have to admit though, I was a little nervous about the idea the whole day. My biggest barriers to riding my bike faster are traffic and road conditions I think! And that's what had be a little anxious. At no point did I worry I'd be able to make it 30 miles, it was mostly concern about arriving in Greensburg in one piece, with both my legs and both my arms still attached.

But it was fine. And the route was actually flat (!) for a good 10 miles where I was able to easily maintain a speed of 20 MPH without trashing my legs. What a difference it makes to ride on the flats some! It gave me some confidence that I might not be the last finisher on the bike section of some of the triathlons I want to do. I might be more like second to last... :)

Anyway, I had a great ride overall and arrived at the softball field just in time. I had ridden 32.22 miles with an average MPH of 16.93. I was pretty pyched! And then I sat at the softball game and froze despite the fact that O had brought me sweats to wear. The good news is, O pitched really well, even though his team still lost.

And now it's time for bed. Because I didn't do my run today but biked instead, I'm going to run tomorrow morning. This means that I can sleep in because I can start my running whenever I want (vs having to comply to pool hours or getting to a spinning class...) Hope everyone has a great weekend!

That is awesome, Beth!! 16.93 is a sweet average speed. I am sure that riding on the hills is making you a strong cyclist.
