Too Good to be True
This weather is crazy. It was sunny and 55 degrees today! It's January 19th! I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! Very concerning for the greenhouse effect and our environment yes...but it's hard to be in a complaining mood when the sky is blue and the sun is warm on your face. Life is too good!
As it so happened today was a running day for me so I COULD NOT WAIT to get home and go running. When you only get to run 2 days/week (and it's stretch really to call it "running"), you're always excited to run. But when you only get to run 2 days/week and it happens to be 55 degrees and sunny in the dead of winter - that may friends is indescribable. :)
So I headed to the trail in my shorts and long sleeve t-shirt. The trail is a great place to run but it does feel about 5-10 degrees colder there because it's pretty much all in the shade, it's in the woods along a creek, etc... This will be an awesome thing in the summer, but today I was a little chilly. No complaining here though - it could have been 10 degrees with a -5 windchill, ice and snow. I did the following:
5 min walk
10 min jog
3 min walk
10 min jog
3 min walk
5 min jog
5 min walk
Pretty much the same thing as Monday but I felt a lot better today. I timed one mile at 7:45 which I was surprised at. I honestly feel like I'm running 10 min pace. I know my fitness is going to be EXTREMELY slow to come back because running 6 miles/week is not the training of champions, but for now, I have to accept what I can get.
On the way home from the trail I stopped at the YMCA to lift. I had a good lifting day. I did 2 sets of 15 reps of 65 pounds on the bench press which isn't that significant other than the fact that that's a 10# weight on each side. Today was the first time I've ever done that. I was thinking that I'm much stronger physically than I have ever been - even in college. Of course in college I could run under 18 minutes in the 5K and 38 minutes in the 10K and now I'd be lucky to run under 25 and 55 minutes respectively - but hey, you can't have it all. :)
I have tomorrow off work because I work Saturday. I would much rather work tomorrow and have Saturday and Sunday off but I'm not too sad that I get to sleep in a little tomorrow. I didn't get to bed last night until late after class and I could use a few extra Z's. :)
