Walk and Run

The little Roxy dog is throwing O and I for a loop. We haven't quite established a routine yet (understandable - we just got her yesterday) and so this morning I was confused. O had fed her and left for work. I got up and didn't know if I should walk her first, run first, run and walk her at the same time? I laid in bed for a while and decided to walk first, drop her off and then run. She was so excited she simply could not contain herself. :)

We went on our walk and she pulled me around like crazy. She's only about 20-25 pounds but she's strong! It was about 45 degrees so I was wearing a coat and long pants, but we did run a little. I figured that was one way to get rid of excess energy more quickly. We just ran for 1-3 minutes at a time, walk a little, run a little, etc.. Not sure if it really helped with the energy level. She's a fireball! After about 30 minutes I dropped her off at home, changed clothes and then did a 30 minute run. I wanted to run more because it was a beautiful fall morning but the podiatrist told me to take it easy with the running, so I restrained.

My feet feel so good right now which is so exciting - but I'm trying desperately to not get too excited because this same thing happened last time. I got the cortisone shot, I took the anti-inflammatories and my feet were happy and I could run pain free. But once the cortisone wore off and my prescription ran out, my feet got progressively worse to the point where I was back to stage 1. I am wearing the night splint (some), using the golf ball for massage, my orthotics are a little different and I am icing more, but is that enough to make the difference so that they don't start hurting again? I guess only time can tell.

I do have a physical therapy appointment today at 4 pm. Because I have a co-pay for PT every time I go, I'm just going to ask them to show me some exercises I can do at home to help strengthen my feet. I also plan to stop by the weight room and lift before my PT appointment since the gym and the PT office are in the same general location.

And now I MUST work on my paper for school or else that thing will never get done. (or I'm going to have to take a week vacation from work to finish it the week before it's due... :)

Are you still working on orthotics? Everything else you described are things to reduce the inflammation, but only the orthotics (to my knowledge) are likely to address the cause that brings the PF back.

I actually already had orthotics and they doctored my old ones up some. The podiatrist said they looked good. Wondering if I should get totally new ones?
