Veteran's Day
Happy Veteran's Day to everyone! To all you veterans out there, I want to personally thank you for your hard work and sacrifice in defending our country and risking your lives while doing it. I pray for you always.
Today was a pretty nice day for me. Work was busy. Lots of sick people I suppose! That's one thing about working in health care - job security. :) Don't ever have to worry about not having sick people to treat, whether the economy is good, bad or ugly! I had a very delightful patient today. Despite the fact that she has metastatic breast cancer and very little time left to live she was the most kind, patient and upbeat person to speak with. I wanted to spend all afternoon with her chatting. My heart sometimes breaks for people like that, but at the same time speaking with them can be so amazingly uplifting. Considering their circumstances they have every right to be angry and bitter but so often are just the opposite. This particular woman can no longer eat because her cancer is obstructing her GI tract, but when I told her that it was fine to sip on some tea, it was like telling her she had just won a million dollars. Oh the joy! These patients certainly give me a lesson in thankfulness and usually come at just the time when I need a kick in the pants for feeling sorry for myself (for various and totally unwarranted reasons).
Anyway, how about a little running talk? :) I ran 60 minutes today around North Park. I was racing the raindrops. I knew some heavy rain was on it's way and during my run it was sprinkling. But I managed to make it back to my car before the sky opened up and the "real" rain came down! My foot felt good (but I'm still not speaking to it :). I don't really understand my foot's pain pattern. I can't quite figure out why and when it hurts vs feels okay, but I guess I'll just keep rolling along and if it really starts to bother me I'll stop!
I ran a little harder today, not really on purpose but I think I felt an urgency with the rain coming on. That doesn't quite make sense because an hour is an hour and no matter how fast I ran, it was still going to take 60 minutes! Regardless, I ran my little lake loop about 1:30-2 minutes faster than I usually do. Afterwards I did my body weight circuit and then I took a nice, long, hot shower. It was definitely warm enough to wear shorts today (I won my game again!) but being wet from the rain put quite a chill on me.
Now I'm really trying to procrastinate (quite successfully I must say) as I don't want to either clean our apartment or do the laundry, both of the tasks awaiting me tonight. O and I are going away this weekend (to Penn State for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic regional!) so I need to get my chores done ASAP!

Ditto on the running faster to avoid inclement weather. I don't understand why I do it, an hour is an hour no matter how fast I do it. Maybe I think that if I get it done faster I'll hold the rain off for a few minutes.
I can't believe that you're still winning your game. My tights have been out for a few weeks now!
Have a fun weekend!

I am jealous that you're going to watch Regionals. I looked into heading out there to visit my State College friends, but it's just too far. :(
And no tights for me today, either!

I've started to use you as my weather forecast. Whatever conditions you write about seem to be what we get the following day...but we're supposed to get the precipitation in the form of snow tomorrow.
Enjoy the regional, it should be a great meet!
