Pizza Night

Once a week my husband and I have pizza night. It's quite possibly the best night of the work week. Both my pizza-monger husband and I look forward to pizza night with great joy.

Usually pizza night is Wednesday (a little mid-week pick-me-up) but now with O taking some night classes at Pitt (to get his certification to teach in public schools) we had to rearrange pizza night to Tuesdays. Oh the happiness of pizza night!

We usually dine on Digiorno Pizzas. My personal favorite is the thin crust pepperoni while O prefers the original rising crust pepperoni. We usually have fruit smoothies with our pizza. Oh, by the way, we finish a whole pizza ourselves...with room to spare!

As a dietitian my eating habits are often scrutinized by the general public. I'm not quite sure why people would think that all dietitians eat only fruit and vegetables with the occasional rice cake for a treat. As a dietitian who runs, I'm doomed to the "healthy eater" stereotype and the endless barrage of "wow...you eat ice cream?!?" comments. I'm here to tell you two things. First, most dietitians aren't the healthiest of eaters. Just like nurses who smoke (a very common thing by the way), dietitians eat fatty, cholesterol-laden food. Second, pizza can be included in any healthy diet if eaten in moderation. In fact I recommend it. There is something to be said for the satisfaction you get from eating greasy, fatty foods, a satisfaction that cannot be achieved by eating salad with dressing on the side.

Okay, I'm off my soapbox now. :) As for running today I did an easy 45 minutes this morning along with my body weight circuit. I felt pretty good once I got going, but a little stiff at first. It wasn't as cool as I thought it would be this morning (still in the mid 60s) but it was much less humid so I was very pleased. Fall is very much my favorite season so I'm glad to be changing the calender to September tonight!
