Quiet Inaugural day
Most of the people I've talked to today who went down to the Mall had surprisingly hassle-free experiences, but with all the hype, Matt and I thought it would be best to avoid the craziness in case we got stuck downtown. (Plus, Matt did not have the day off like I did.) Who knows what it would have been like getting back home, but I made sure to catch most of the Inauguration coverage on TV.
But before the coverage started, I was of course working out. My Achilles hadn't been bothering me walking around--not even much going down stairs--so I thought I was due for another run/jog. It was really cold again so I taped up and hoped for the best on a little out-and-back bike path run. Unfortunately it wasn't so great--a low-grade ache that set in after about 5 minutes of running. Once my legs warmed up again it didn't feel too terrible, but it was noticeable. I biked for about an hour and watched the pre-Inauguration stuff, getting my first glimpse at the more than a million people packed into the Mall. I was excited about the day's events but of course bummed about my Achilles (what else is new?)
Somehow sitting on the couch watching TV (with a quick trip to Whole Foods in there somewhere) ended up occupying several hours of my day. I biked at the gym while watching a bit of the parade and then moped around lifting/thinking about my Achilles. I'll probably snap out of it tomorrow, at least temporarily.
Welcome to the Obama era!
