Into the Wild

I tried really hard to find a movie available for free On Demand to watch this morning, but nothing really appealed to me. I caved and ordered "Into the Wild", which my parents and grandmother had both recommended to me (separately). I did read the book upon which it was based, but too long ago to really remember it. It has beautiful scenery and I'm enjoying it so far (will hopefully finish it tomorrow) although the pace is a little slow for a biking movie. My legs also felt dead today—they are probably just tired. I decided to stop doing hills after awhile and just take it easier. Easy running days were a no-brainer, but I have a harder time remembering to chill out once in awhile with the cross training because it doesn't beat up your legs as much.

I had an interesting day at work. Five of my colleagues and I were asked to participate in a "train the trainers" session. Our firm does a lot of training to prepare researchers/experts how to talk to media and policymakers, and some of us want to get more involved in the training. I did some of it informally with researchers at Georgetown, but this was an awesome way to learn how to do a good training session with a large group. We all had an opportunity to do mock on-camera interviews and other drills, and as embarrassing as it was to be put on the spot, it was really helpful. Our training went from 9-2 and I was tired after that!

I tried a new elliptical machine at the gym this afternoon. It felt like it was lower impact than the one I've been doing but had more of a running motion. I felt good but I could never get up a good cadence. I'll try it a few more times before I decide if I like it or not. I also lifted as usual and all was fine. There was a freak rain storm while I was in there and I sure was glad to have missed it!
