Getting more comfortable
Going along with the theme of not being able to do as much working out as usual this week, this morning I rode the bike for what seemed like an interminable amount of time because I am going to a concert tonight. I watched a couple of "Boston Legal" episodes and the season finale of yet another MTV show I've gotten into, "The Paper." ("The Paper" follows the staff of Cypress Bay High School's newspaper, but I already had heard of the school because standout runner Emilie Amaro goes there.) My sunburn thankfully feels more tight and less acutely painful today, so I was able to work harder yet more comfortably on the bike. My knee was bothering me a bit (a little swollen) when I first got off the bike, probably from a long hill workout, but it seems better now.
I had a meeting downtown to go to this morning, and I had enough time to walk all the way there--probably around 2 miles. It was a very pleasant walk because it wasn't too hot yet and all of it was either downhill or flat. I tried to stay on the shady side of the street as much as possible, but it was a little bit hard. My burn is now totally peeling, and I'm sure it would be terrible to overexpose that new layer of skin to the sun...I shudder to think of it.
One of the participants in the meeting--which was really a focus group to talk about the linkages between medical reserve corps units (MRCs) and local health departments--was a Hopkinton (Mass.) resident whose MRC staffed the Boston Marathon medical tent this year. It was neat to hear about the race from that perspective. Afterwards, we were talking and she said I am welcome to stay at her house the next time I run Boston. A nice gesture although it probably won't ever be necessary.
Matt is going on some real estate cruise on the Potomac tonight and I will be at a Catie Curtis concert at one of my favorite venues, eating and listening instead of lifting. But it should be fun and I am glad to break out of my routine tonight.
