D.C. on foot

Heading into Memorial Day weekend, I thought I'd have a lot of relaxing/packing/organizing time. Now Sunday is almost over, and I'm realizing how busy I've been. I did get on the bike this morning, but not for as long as I had wanted (actually, I stopped my watch when my mom called to ask what time we wanted to meet them for brunch, and forgot to restart it.) But I don't get that many chances to see my family here on my home turf, so I wanted to take advantage. While on the bike, I watched most of "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead," a movie which "we" watched last night (I fell asleep before an hour had passed). It was really good, but definitely a downer.

Matt and I walked down to eat with my parents near their hotel, and then I decided to head down to the FDR Memorial with them (Matt went back home to do some work). I took them the long way to the Memorial along the Potomac, and it was a beautiful day--breezy enough so that I didn't notice how sunburned I was getting until about an hour later. We ended up walking for about three hours all told, and ran smack into the Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Rally. There were thousands of bikers riding through the city in honor of POWs. It was pretty cool to see, but at one point, we had to wait for 20 minutes before we could cross to the other side of the road. Eventually we made it back to the hotel where I refueled with a granola bar and a few Hershey Kisses, and the I walked the 20 more minutes back to my apartment.

I am totally beat and burned now and we have plans tonight. Part of me wants to get on the bike again for a half-hour, but I think I will take a quick nap and do some sit-ups so that I can make it through tonight. Hope everyone is having a good long weekend!
