Doing what I can
I was not super-motivated to get in the car this morning and drive 25 minutes up to the Bethesda gym, but I knew it was the only place that I'd be guaranteed to have a decent workout. I made good time getting there and actually had a better (UBB) workout than the past couple of times. I think doing a hill program helped (the steeper hills are KILLER on the muscles in your upper back that you don't ever use) and also the fact that I could pretty much read the closed-captioning on the TV on the wall (the news was on). I managed to stay on there for 75 minutes or so, and then I did a very little bit of abs and lifting. My knee was actually a bit more swollen when I woke up today, which I'm sure is just because of doing a lot of walking yesterday, but I was a bit surprised because I iced for several hours last night. In any case, I knew we'd be heading out in the afternoon so I wanted to get back from the gym to be able to get in some icing time.
We spent several hours this afternoon going to open houses and it was probably a little more walking than I should have done. I also went grocery shopping and to the library after that...and now I am sitting with my ice on and leg up again, when of course I'd rather be doing a second workout. But I'm aware that the swelling is a warning sign and I am just trying to nip that in the bud, so I will sit here like a lump until it's time to cook dinner.
In case you missed it, Frank Litsky wrote a nice feature article on Joan Benoit Samuelson today in the Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/13/sports/othersports/13benoit.html?ref=sports. And good job to Ryan Hall at London today!
