Morning at the gym

I have plans tonight--and my shoulder/neck problem is still bothering me, so I did all my working out in the morning today. I tried to get as much sleep as possible since I've been feeling tired and get in a workout decently long enough so that I wouldn't feel guilty about socializing rather than going to the gym after work. I walked down to the gym and had a fun time ellipticalling, just because it was something different. I listened to my iPod and just concentrated on how I was feeling. I did not up the resistance all that much to reduce stress on my knee, but I was going at my usual fast pace and didn't have any problems. After that, I got on the upright stationary bike and read while I rode. That's one thing I wish I could do on the trainer--and I think there is actually some sort of contraption you can get to hold a book, but I've never fully explored that option. On the bike next to me--before I got there and after I got up--was a local running scene celebrity of sorts, the owner of my neighborhood Fleet Feet who also happens to be the father of our running and tri-enthusiast Mayor. He is always very friendly and I hope I am in the type of shape he's in when I am his age.

After I finished with the machines, I barely had time to do an abbreviated ab routine and then I skedaddled home, realizing I was already running late. As I was walking in, Matt was leaving. He's been working really late this week and had an early meeting this morning--I feel like I've barely seen him. Plus, he's going to L.A. tomorrow for a couple of nights. We'll figure out a time to have a conversation soon, I hope. I was invited to join him in L.A. but I have a lot of stuff going on at work and a weekend cross-country trip just tires me out too much.

I am meeting a friend downtown for a foreign movie I don't know much about, but the reviews were interesting. It is a rainy night so I suppose it is a good time to go to the movies...and I will pretend that am not thinking about the fact that in my "old life," I would be gearing up for a soggy night on the track!
