Foiled again

Well, I planned to run this morning and see how an extra day or two or "rest" (read: exercise other than running) affected my legs, but the weather had other plans. It was raining pretty hard and that didn't bother me, but I looked out and saw that our front steps were completely iced over. In my past, hard-core days, I would have just gone ahead and crossed my fingers, but these days all I need is another injury from slipping. So I took off my tights and shirts and hopped on the bike (don't worry, I put shorts on). I was kind of bummed but Matt (who was up early for a meeting) pointed out that I should be grateful I had the backup option. And he's right.

The workout was fine, pretty much the same as yesterday--I worked hard and I threw in a bunch of hills while watching more of the HBO psychotherapy show. It's strangely riveting, and I have a little crush on Blair Underwood, who doesn't seem a day older than he was during his "L.A. Law" days. Hey, whatever captures my attention while biking is good enough for me.

The weather stayed pretty crappy all day, and my pants were soaked after walking from the parking lot near Matt's office to mine (about a 10-minute walk). It had cleared up by the time I left in the evening to go to the gym, but the gym was very empty, and I'm assuming people were scared off by the earlier "wintry mix." As I was doing some exercises for my glutes with the Thera-band, a (female) trainer asked me what kind of sport I played. I told her I was an ailing runner and she told me that she was also rehabbing from an Achilles injury. I assured her, from experience, that it would heal quickly if she stopped running for a couple of weeks. That one was a blip on the radar screen compared to my chronic stuff, but I didn't think so when it happened!
