Early morning exploring

It turned out that I didn't have to get up super-early this morning because the meeting started later than I thought. I waited until the sun was almost up and then I set out on a little tour of downtown Atlanta. I wanted to do a straightforward route because I knew getting lost would be especially bad, so I used one of the suggested routes on the Atlanta Track Club site and then modified it a bit. It was mostly an out and back and not very exciting, but there were a few hills, a lot of big buildings, and many of the same "upscale" chain restaurants (Panera, etc.) that I am very used to seeing. I also underestimated how many lights I would have to wait at, and I couldn't really go another way because I was trying to stick to a planned route. But all in all it was a decent run--as usual, I was achy at first and then things warmed up--and the weather was ideal for me (mid 40s).

I got back a little later than planned with all the traffic light stops, but I got where I needed to be on time and had a productive morning and afternoon. I learned all about some neat things local health departments are doing to better prepare their communities for disasters but I am too tired to write about them now! The sessions ended at about 4 and I had plenty of time to go to the hotel gym (a good one, for once) to bike and lift before my aunt and uncle picked me up for dinner. I don't see them too often so it was a fun evening and a good end to a busy day.

This reminds me of when I was at OSU--- We were going via bus to Florida Relays for Spring Break. We spent the night in Atlanta and did a workout at Georgia Tech the next day. My teammate and I went to warm down after the work out and got really lost. We were so hot and thirsty but before long found ourselves near a Coca Cola bottling facility (or some other Coke building). She happened to have a buck or two in her pocket, so we tried to see if we could find a vending machine on the premises but had no luck. A security guard stopped us and asked what we were up to-- when we explained he went off and come back with 2 free cokes. It was great!
