A new route, sort of

I was worried about how my leg would feel during this morning's long run since it has been acting up. I took a couple of Advil and did some work with the foam roller before I left to meet the crew at Iwo Jima, and all in all it held up pretty well. Not totally pain-free, but better. There was a pretty small crowd out there this morning since it is the post-marathon season and also kind of dreary out (temperature in the 40s, perfect for me). Today's route was one that I had maybe done once before, several years ago, but I do pieces of it as one of my weekly staple runs, so it wasn't really new. It was about half urban, through the streets of DC, and then the rest was in Rock Creek Park. No major hills but a few longer, gentle hills. I ran with Leilani and her husband and a few other people at a very relaxed pace. I'm not sure on the total distance but probably around 12 miles. Although I was actually pretty warm while running, I was freezing as soon as we stopped and I feel like I've been a little cold ever since.

I met up with my running friend Emily for lunch in my neighborhood this afternoon. She is pregnant (with #3) so I haven't seen her in a few months. It was so great to catch up and we also talked knees since she actually had lateral release surgery a few years ago and did an Ironman 3 months later. It's always good to hear stories like that in case it does come to that for me. I miss running with her but she has always bounced back well from her pregnancies so I look forward to running again with her in the early spring.

Tonight I am going to another concert, Dar Williams this time. She seems to come once a year to a venue I like so I try to go when I can. Should be a good time!
