Re-learning how to trail run
Somehow my alarm didn't go off this morning, and I'm lucky I only woke up a little bit later than I wanted to. We stayed at Matt's mom's house in Westchester so I did one of the few routes I know from there, involving the Leatherstocking Trail. I hadn't been on the trail in a few months and I thought maybe it would be better since a later winter/early spring storm really tore it up. Unfortunately it is still in pretty bad shape. There are several wooden bridges that are torn up and I am skeptical that anyone is really going to do anything about it. Tons of people walk their dogs there or use the path for exercising--I actually saw a mountain biker there this morning--so I'm very surprised. I have a love/hate relationship with trails, especially when I am out of shape like I am right now, so I used today as a (re) learning experience. At least I didn't lose my footing, I just was extremely careful and slow. The weather was great today--crisp and fall-like once again, and I loved it. My legs felt less tired than yesterday but a little sore after navigating the trail and then looking at my watch toward the end and realizing I had to hurry to get back!
The reason for the hurrying was that we had to get ready and leave for Matt's grandfather's 90th birthday. We made it there in time and it was a really nice party. He is still super-sharp with a great sense of humor and I think he really enjoyed himself. My family was there too, including my sister and her boyfriend and my grandma, so it was nice to have everyone together. Here's to another ten years and then we will celebrate his 100th!
