More than one reason for a crappy run
First, a WC shout-out: I am so excited about Kara Goucher's bronze medal at the World Championships!! She ran an amazing race and I just hope she stays healthy and is a force to reckon with next year at the Olympics.
We ended up staying out late (for me) last night so of course my plan of getting out early to run didn't really succeed--it was about 8:30 by the time I left and really nasty out. (If I were up to doing long runs with my group, I would have been done running already!) I could tell right when I started that it was going to be one of those runs where every little thing bothered me. My knee hurt, my water bottles were bouncing around, my iPod came unclipped from my shorts...you know how it is. And that's not even considering how hot it was out--as Deena said in a blog entry from Osaka, the sweat was flying off my fingertips after about a mile. I ran uphill for the first couple of miles because I knew I would be better off in the woods, and as soon as I got onto the Glover Park trail, I did feel a little better. Of course, I had to come up a big hill in the last mile of the run and I totally died, but at least I saved myself some energy by staying in the shade.
Matt played some football with his cousins this afternoon but there was no way I was spending anymore time outside after my run! I did my usual things around the house and then when Matt came home and cooled off a bit, we decided to go see "The Bourne Ultimatum" since it was perfect sit-inside-in-the-a/c weather. Despite a little problem where the screen went blank for about 5 minutes, it was pretty good. And when we came outside it had rained a little and cooled off ever so slightly, a nice surprise!
