Holding my horses
I am pooped! I just got home from a very long walk (decided to walk home from my nail salon, which is near work, rather than wait for the bus) and came in just in time to press "record" on my VCR (old school, I know) so that I can watch the USATF meet when I'm ready. I am excited that track is on all three weekend days, although I'm always disappointed by the coverage. But some coverage is better than none.
I woke up nervous today knowing that I was supposed to try some running. As most of us do, I detest the run-walk thing but know it helps when returning from a lot of time off. I am definitely not at the point where I was last fall, having had no running base for several months...I first noticed my inner knee pain enough to stop running about 5 weeks ago. I've run intermittently at times during those weeks, but I can't really count that. Anyway, I did a bunch of 3-4 minute walks followed by 3-4 minute runs (total time was a little more than 30 minutes). I was really tentative when I first ran and things were all creaky (as they always have been) but then I relaxed and started to feel more normal. All in all, it was about what I expected--I felt some tightness in my IT band, but very little inner and back of knee pain. I finished the workout on the trainer and was pretty pleased.
I probably should have iced when I got to work, but the fact that my body didn't remind me is a good sign! I felt pretty good all day and my walk from Georgetown felt great. I wasn't wearing my sneakers or walking particularly fast, but I was wearing supportive sandals and was aware of the fact that I wasn't in pain. I will have to spend another Saturday cross training, but if it can be one of the last, I'm willing to grin and bear it.
Happy weekend to all!
