Running with the race

When I left my apartment this morning to meet Camille and Leilani in Georgetown, I thought to myself that the Cherry Blossom runners were lucky with such great weather! It did turn out to be a little breezy, but the world-record time by the women's race winner certainly validated my weather assumption.

The three of us wanted to run and catch part of the race, so we ran alongside the route for a bit. It was easy until the sidewalk ended and we kind of had to run on the course for a bit! (We were careful.) We saw the women's leader, who really was flying, and all the elite women, many of whom I recognized and cheered for. Then we saw all the locals we had been waiting to see, which was great, although I was a little jealous of the people who were having great races :) I saw one of my former MIT runners, who I knew was in the area (she looked great at mile 6 and ended up running about 1:05, not bad for someone who probably hasn't done too many ten-milers), many current DC Road Runners peeps, and a couple of former running parters/track buddies who I hadn't seen since coming back to D.C.

Once we finished seeing everyone we knew, we continued our run up toward the Cathedral and then back to our cars via the Glover-Archibold trail. Both my knees were on the achy side and the back of my knee is still sore. Ugh.

I got home a little later than planned and rushed to get ready and eat breakfast before I left for the airport. I am in New York at my parents' for a couple of days for Passover. Matt will hopefully join me tomorrow but he has a lot going on at work so it might not be possible.

I had a fun day with my sister. My parents picked me up at LGA and then dropped me off at her apartment because they had theater tickets. We had lunch and then did a bit of shopping at Bloomies and Niketown before coming back downtown to meet my parents for dinner. It was a little rainy but we were undeterred and had a great time. It was a long day though and I am pooped!
