Hamstring hater
I probably should have gone to the gym this morning to bike or elliptical, but my leg felt good after two days of running and at this point, I would like to be able to string together more days. Plus, after getting home late last night, I wanted to be able to sleep in a little, and as we all know, running is just more efficient.
So, I set out on my run and I felt fine for a few miles. I actually ran to work (or by it at least) because the entrance to the Glover-Archibold trail is behind my office. I want to get back into doing these trails more as I used to be in such good shape when they were part of my usual routine! As soon as I turned on the trail, I felt my hamstring tighten. There were a lot of muddy puddles and I did my best to lift my knees and not shuffle (as I've been trying to do now as I am convinced my problems are biomechanical) but I probably wasn't very successful. By the time I got back to the road, the back of my knee was pinching. Aargh! It didn't get worse the rest of the run, but there's basically two phases of it at this point--pinching and non-pinching, so I clearly was in the wrong phase. Every time I feel that pain, I tense up and probably make it worse. Stretching doesn't really help (although I did that with my rope when I got home) and it usually just kind of stays that way for the rest of the day, putting me in a bad mood. I don't know exactly what brings it on, but whatever it is, I hate it.
Since I have always had awkward posture--whether practicing the violin, sitting at my computer or what--it is a no-brainer that I probably have some stride/biomechanical issues. Leilani suggester her chiropractor/ART guy so I probably should consult him. Sometime soon, I swear...
We had another cancer experts panel this evening that I wanted to try and go to, so I lifted at lunch again. I only did upper body stuff and a little biking. I find that my leg always feels better after I have been working out or even just walking around. Sitting is the worst for it, but of course, that's what I do most of the day.
I usually relish my end-of-week, Friday morning runs, but I think I'm going to be smart and ride my trainer tomorrow. I have a dentist appointment before work so it would be hard to get to the gym beforehand.
OK, I'm going to try and get over my hamstring hate so I can enjoy the rest of the night!
