Hangin' with the Hoyas
My run today was better than yesterday's, but still not back to last week's level of not really noticing anything except tiredness (as compared to aches and pains). I'll probably be back on the bike to play it safe tomorrow. But back to my run: I could not get out of bed—this has been happening way too often lately—and rushed out the door without a clear destination/route in mind. I didn't want to do the exact same downtown route I usually do on Wednesdays just because I am tired of it. I ended up going further east and not as far south, if I'm getting the geography right. It was fine, but because I was a little later, the pedestrian and automobile traffic downtown was worse than ever and it definitely added some time to the run. My kneecap didn't bother me today although the back of my knee was slightly stiff/sore when I got back. As for my other leg thing, I feel it now and then but it doesn't seem to be getting worse and it's been a few weeks now.
My work day was highlighted by the campus-wide Hoyas send-off event, which was basically just a bunch of students, staff and faculty outside the athletic building waiting for the men's basketball team to come out and board the bus to the Final Four in Atlanta. I didn't have to go for work or anything; I went because I have become such a fan! It was really cool to feel the school spirit and to see those big guys up close. I took some photos and cheered for the guys and basically re-lived my college years, pretending that I went to a school where the team had a following. ![]()
I lifted just before the send-off thing because I knew I would be nearby. I have been uncomfortably hot in the gym whether I am working out or just lifting, and I think it has to do with the warm weather outside and (I'm assuming) no air conditioning yet inside. Whatever it is, it is gross. I think it is supposed to cool off a bit towards the end of the week so maybe that will help. Actually, it was quite humid during my run this morning—I had forgotten about that until now. I’m trying not to let it affect me as much as usual because to be honest, I'd rather be able to be dripping sweat and hating the humidity than inside swimming or ellipticalling.
