Good timing/bad run

The good news is I got my run in before it started snowing this morning (we didn't get much, but it was a bit messy). The bad news is, after feeling fine, about 2 miles into my run, I turned a corner and got that pain on the side of my shin again. I massaged it and tried to stretch but I could tell I was altering my stride so that it wouldn't bother me and that just ruined the rest of my run. I didn't actually feel it much after that but I am really worried about it because it is a pretty sharp pain. Oddly, I do not have any sore spots on my shin (I'm calling it my shin but it is not the stress fracture/bony part of the shin; it is the muscle next to it, halfway between my ankle and my knee), but I can replicate the pain if I grab my ankle and stretch my quad far enough. Weird. I'm pretty sure this is a muscle/tendon thing since it came on after the hilly part of the run on Saturday, but obviously any pain is disconcerting. I haven't increased my mileage or run more consecutive days in a couple of months, so I'm at a loss. I did just change my shoes and orthotics, which is good.

I recently added some weight to my squats, and I'm wondering if that could have put some extra stress on that shin muscle, because I can kind of see that making sense. I did not do any lower body stuff with impact tonight when I was lifting and maybe that will make the difference.

I got a lot done at work today, probably because it was quiet. I'm sure some people went home early because of the snow, and it was pretty dead on campus. I like having a lot of people around--keeps the day interesting--but sometimes it is nice to have one of those quiet days.
