Hills and hoops

If all goes well, I will try to run a bit longer tomorrow morning with Camille, so today I didn't run for too long but I did try to incorporate some hills. A long hill, in fact--I forced myself to go up Wisconsin Avenue from where it starts in Georgetown almost to the National Cathedral. It isn't particularly steep, but right now I want to just build my hill strength. I felt like I was crawling, but as long as my leg wasn't hurting, I was content as could be. It was pretty windy this morning and I layered enough on top but not on bottom so my legs were cold. But, happily, that was my only major complaint.

Pretty soon after I got back from running, Matt and I went to the Verizon Center for the Georgetown-Marquette basketball game with a co-worker and her boyfriend. This weekend is the big celebration of 100 years of Hoya hoops, so it was an important game with lots of past GU stars in attendance (not the ones currently in the NBA, but Patrick Ewing and a few others whose names Matt recognized). Marquette was also ranked #11 coming in to this game and Georgetown #24 (or 22, I can't remember) so that made it an important match-up too. It was close and pretty ugly during the first half, but Georgetown picked up the pace and blew them out in the second. It was really exciting! We also saw the new DC mayor, who is already popular, and shook his hand. Definitely a fun afternoon.

Tonight we have the first of many 30th birthday parties this month (and year). I am looking forward to it but also hope we don't stay out too late because I'm not used to it. I considered riding my trainer this afternoon but I am just going to skip it and stretch because I am getting paranoid that biking is causing my hamstring to stay tight. Hopefully that is the right decision in the long run.
