Sightseeing and post-run soreness

I realized that I hadn't been down to the National Mall area since we've been back in DC, so I ran down to the Washington Monument and back (plus a little added on on the way there and back.) I was in a rush to get out the door and I think I ate a little too quickly, resulting in a major side stitch that lasted for about 2/3 of the run. I think going uphill in the direction of home helped get rid of it, that sometimes happens. As I ran past the White House, I noticed that the path that followed the fence that surrounds the grounds from Pennsylvania Avenue to the main gate on the other side is now closed to pedestrians. I used to walk (and run) there a lot...in the mornings you could hear the audio tour that they keep running for people waiting outside. I think it's sad that they've closed off so much of the grounds; it's also inconvenient for people who want to cut through from the area where I used to work to the area where there are a lot more amenities like banks and restaurants and stuff.

But I digress. I was generally satisfied with today's run (post-cramp) until I got home and realized that the back of my knee was sore. I'm pretty sure it's still from yesterday's run and Barb's therapy, and it's good that it didn't bother me while running, but I am worried about it. I am scheduled for a cross-training day tomorrow anyway, but I want to be able to run the next two days. Matt and I are going to L.A. tomorrow evening to go to his company's holiday party and I found out last time we went that the hotel has an awful fitness room. (This is a quick trip and we will be back on Saturday.) A friend of mine from the New York Road Runners Foundation suggested a trail run in Santa Monica that seems really cool, so I hope to be able to do it on Friday.

I lifted during lunch today since I had another event after work. I always seem to get more accomplished because the gym is much emptier. But I also feel rushed to get back to my office, too.

Tonight is my club's track night and I was thinking wistfully about when I might be able to get back on the track. I am dreading how hard it is going to be but I am also looking forward to getting back to it because I love track! I am going to concentrate first on being pain free for a week's worth of runs and then on building my base. Once I get to that point, then I can think about adding back some speedwork.
