Lost in the Manor

Even though I don't celebrate Christmas, I still like running on Christmas morning when it is quiet and (usually) wintry and still. This morning wasn't cold (although thankfully it wasn't warm and wet like Saturday) but I was out pretty early as Matt and I wanted to get on the road back to Washington as soon as we could to avoid another trip full of traffic. The first 25 minutes of the run were pretty flat--I ran on a pretty main road but the traffic was light because of the holiday. I was going to just turn around in another few minutes, but I thought I would do a little exploring and try to find a route someone showed me last winter. I turned down a street that I remembered and found myself in Larchmont Manor, a really beautiful part of the town that sort of hugs the coast of the Sound. I did eventually find what I was looking for (two parks that almost connect and then let you out near a golf course), but only after a couple of wrong turns which definitely extended the run a little bit and added in a couple more up and downhills. (Oops.) But I was feeling pretty good, knee-wise, so at least that was a plus.

Sitting in the car was not so good for my knee and I've been sore ever since the first hour or so of our trip. Thankfully we did not have much traffic at all, although it did start raining once we hit southern New Jersey. We stopped at Matt's office on the way home so that he could take care of something and got back home around 5. I thought about biking, but I got distracted cleaning up and making dinner and it never happened. As much as I hate it, I know it is good for me to get out of my usual routine and find out that skipping a couple of days of lifting is not going to kill me.

Tomorrow is another university holiday so I look forward to a continuation of my holiday break!
