Last run of the year

For the past couple of years, I've looked forward to finishing out the year's mileage and adding it up to see how high it is (I don't think I missed a day in 2003 or 2004). This year I am just glad to be running again, period. And I'm glad to report that although I am a little sore now, I had a great run on the Canal this morning with Camille--my longest run yet since my injury (only by a few minutes, but still). It was a good temperature for a run, in the 40s, like it's been almost every morning for the past several weeks. When we were almost at the turnaround point of the run, we came across a guy who I met at Wed. night track workouts several years ago. He is an older guy and a dedicated runner whose son ran with a friend of mine from high school at Columbia. He was excited to see us and said that he had heard I was back in town and wondered why I hadn't been at track workouts. I assured him that I am working hard to get back!

After the run and breakfast, I sat down on the couch to read the paper and promptly fell asleep! I took a nice nap for about an hour, which felt very good, but made me a little groggy. Then I just about finished my book (a couple of pages to go) and faced the crowds at Whole Foods. It was more crowded than I'd ever seen it, but luckily they were very organized about getting people into the right lines, etc. I rode my trainer for a little while after I game home, getting into yet another book.

Tonight I made dinner for us and for Matt's cousin and boyfriend, who joined us. We are all still hanging out and waiting for the ball to drop, at which point I'm pretty sure I will be going to sleep, as I am supposed to help out with a race tomorrow morning (not too early, luckily, but I'd like to get my own workout in beforehand). Happy new year to all!
