Suitcases and holiday wishes

It's still two days before Thanksgiving but I feel like everyone is already leaving town. I saw a lot of suitcases and roller bags on my walk to the bus this morning and everyone who came into our office suite today wished us a Happy Thanksgiving. That's probably because most of them are taking the day off tomorrow! I will be at work but Matt and I will drive to New York sometime in the evening. So in terms of traffic, I guess it's good that people are getting a head start on the holiday!

I did a short run today (since this was my second consecutive day) and then biked. No major complaints on the run although a guy passed me like I was standing still and that was before I crawled up the last hill. I truly don't mind if I am slow right now as long as I am getting healthier, but I can't wait until hills don't feel like death anymore! I mean, they are always hard, but we runners know that's the sign of being in shape--when you can maintain your pace--or close to it--up a hill and then recover pretty quickly afterward.

I always read the Health section of the New York Times on Tuesdays and noticed the article describing the study that found that marathoners are at an increased risk of skin cancer. It was a fairly small-scale study and the researchers aren't sure whether the increased risk can be attributed to more UV exposure, suppression of immunity, or both, but it is still a good reminder to me to wear sunscreen, at least until I sweat it off. (I almost never remember to put it on.)

The gym was quieter than usual tonight with so many students headed out of town and it was lovely. Lifting was uneventful and now I am waiting for Matt to get home to start dinner. He better hurry as I am starving!
