Cold but happy
Brrr! It was definitely chilly this morning when I left the house, especially since it was early. I'm not used to it and my chest and toes were the coldest. Thankfully I thought to bring gloves with me. T. was staying in our old neighborhood so we met in between, probably about a half-mile run for me. From there we went into Rock Creek Park and followed the bike path awhile and looped back through Georgetown and Dupont Circle. The pace was actually a little bit fast at first until we both mentioned it and remembered to slow down. My hamstring was behaving, although my knee was a little bit achy at first (cartilage). All in all it was one of the best runs I've had in awhile: good convos and fun to catch up with T., I didn't feel too bad and the pace (according to T.) wasn't that pokey. I'm not sure how far we ran, but I think a little bit further than I've done in past weeks.
I biked for about an hour when I got home, watching part of the movie Junebug. I'm not finished with it yet but I don't think it was the best kind of flick to watch while on the bike! Too much dialogue and not enough action. Oh, well, the time passed anyway.
Since I had gotten such an early start to the day, I decided to try a beginner yoga class around noon at this studio pretty close to my house. My boss goes there a lot and is very experienced at yoga, so she recommended this particular class. I was really nervous since I've never tried yoga before and I'm notorious for being all tense and contorted when stretching, but I have heard from many runners that it is good for injury prevention. I'll try anything at this point. All in all, I'd say I enjoyed it, but I had a hard time with the breathing and of course getting into a couple of the positions was difficult since my hamstring is still sore. (I just avoided the ones that felt weird.) The teacher was good about explaining stuff and was understanding about my injury. The "first time visitor" deal for this particular studio allows me to go to classes for the next two weeks, so I'll probably try again next weekend.
I took a nap this afternoon while Matt played football and then I met up with him and some other people at his cousin's apartment. They were having one last barbeque of the season so we hung out and watched football. Their apartment was cold because of the open door to the balcony, and I'm still cold! It will be a nice night to stay in and be warm.
