So far, the world hasn't ended

Eek! I took today as another cross-training day because my knee is feeling better, but I wanted to give it two days in a row off from running so I can hopefully run tomorrow. I was talking to Audrey last night at our school event about taking days off to heal injuries, and she said she thinks that two days in a row are better than every other. So I decided it couldn't hurt (physically). Mentally it was another story. Of course it was a beautiful day out when I was driving down to the gym, and there were runners everywhere. I tried to remind myself that most of them were probably not running last Saturday when we were doing the half marathon.

At the gym, I got on the spin bike for 70 minutes or so. I always cross train hard and today was no exception. I had a towel spread over the handlebars but that didn't do as much to catch the sweat as I would have liked. There was a puddle on the ground within a half hour--it was pretty gross, but the spin bikes are back behind some beams, so I didn't feel like people were staring at me (which I sometimes do on the more-exposed stationary bike). I did some "hills" to break up the monotony and I did feel like I got a good workout. And my knee didn't hurt on the bike.

I wanted to lift afterwards but I knew I would get a parking ticket if I did anything more than my ab routine. I was also disgustingly sweaty and really wanted to get in the shower. I've been trying not to feel guilty about not running but I have to admit that I have been thinking about it today...I was too busy to get another workout in (plus the pool was closed for a swim meet) so I am definitely feeling like I've done nothing compared to my usual long run Saturdays. But, if it helps me out in the long run, I'll look back on this day fondly. We shall see--I am planning to run tomorrow.

Matt and I are off to get ready for dinner at another couple's house. I hear they have a dog, so I'm going to do some deep breathing exercises before we leave. (Just kidding, but I am mentally preparing myself.)
