Full day of outdoor fun

The time I spent biking this morning on my trainer (the gym was closed) was the most time I spent inside today. I could have gone for a real ride, but I wanted to watch my tape of the Prefontaine Classic, so it worked out well. I biked pretty easily for what felt like forever but was probably an hour and a half (I messed up my watch timer) because I have a sneaking suspicion that the "hill" repeats I've been doing may not be so great for my knee. It felt pretty good while biking today, and even after I got off the bike. I was really hot and sweaty the whole time despite the fact that the air conditioning was on. I'm sure at the gym it is set at a much lower temperature.

Matt and I decided to spend a lot of the day outside since it was so warm and sunny. We intended to spend most of our time at Walden Pond, but when we drove up, there was a sign that said the parking lot would reopen in 2 hours. We looked for somewhere else to park, but it is all residential around there and there is no street parking. We checked out the map and saw that there was a bird sanctuary/nature preserve nearby so we went there. We ate our sandwiches and discovered that there were some nice hiking trails, so we walked around until it was time to go back to Walden. It was really hot, especially in the sun, while we were walking around, but I didn't mind as much as I might have had I run in it that morning. In any case, we had fun exploring and made it back just as the parking lot was opening up again at Walden.

We lucked out and found a relatively quiet spot away from the throngs of people at the pond. It took me about 20 minutes of standing around in the water, but I eventually did get in for a short swim. It actually felt really good once I got over the initial shock of the cold water! We spent the rest of the time just reading and relaxing and it was really nice--the kind of thing I'd like to do again if we were not leaving the area.

I wish my leg felt better enough to try and do the track workout tomorrow, but I think I owe it to myself to give it at least a full week. Plus, I'm still not pain-free. I think it's coming along, but obviously not at the pace I would have hoped for!
