What is it with the wind lately?

I really feel like it has been uncomfortably windy for weeks on end around here. I mentioned that to one of the MIT coaches tonight and he said it's always like that from March until May. It is true that I was cross-training more than I was running last year at this time because of my achilles problem, but I don't remember the wind being like this at all. But maybe he's right...he has lived in Boston for 20+ years longer than I have!

Anyway, it is going to be hard to motivate to run this week since Alison is away and I do much better when I have someone to meet. I tend to go later in the morning when I'm running by myself and that just eats away at the day. This morning I didn't leave until after 9...but it's okay, I guess. I got in a decent run that was enjoyable in parts and awful when the wind blew. I wore a windbreaker today which did help a bit, and it had a good pocket for my iPod as an added bonus. I ended up running through Medford Center and along the Mystic River bike path, which is kind of sketchy but there happened to be a few normal-looking people playing with their dogs in there, so it wasn't so bad. At one point I thought I saw a person lying down, but I blinked and then realized it was a rock!

I was not as productive (schoolwork-wise) as I had intended this afternoon, but I did get in a good 45 minutes of lifting and some biking! Plus I froze my butt off with the other MIT coaches timing people's track workouts. We were definitely colder than the runners tonight. My feet and fingers were killing me when I left. I blasted the heat in the car and finally did thaw out, but I'm still cold even hours later. I'm going to bury myself under some blankets on the couch!
