Not so long for a change

It was nice to wake up today and know that our long run was going to be shorter than last week! After doing 20+ for a number of weeks in a row, I thought it would be prudent to back off a bit. My usual group met up at Porter Square and did one of our now-usual Medford-Arlington-Winchester loops. It was pretty chilly again today--not even 30 when I left my apartment. I heard the windchimes next door a few times during the night so I expected it to be very windy, but mostly it was okay. There were a few stretches that had us battling the wind, but by that point I was actually on the warm side.

Our Winchester loop isn't too hilly except for one rather long stretch in the first hour. I hated the Hutchinson hill every time we did it last year but now I've almost grown fond of it. It's basically straight up for three-quarters of a mile but the scenery is gorgeous--huge houses, a golf course and a country club. Plus, after that, there's a lot of downhill. The three of us were talking during most of the run and except for some hip soreness in the first 10 minutes, I felt pretty good. We made sure to stay at a nice and relaxed pace and not push it and I think that helped make it more relaxing. The total time on the watch ended up being just a hair shy of 2:30. Good enough for today.

This afternoon I did some household things and then went to Bloomingdale's in Newton to pick up a couple of items (nothing too exciting) including an engagement gift. Mary was free so she took me up on my offer to join me. That made the errands a lot more fun!

Tonight we're going to dinner with some friends and then I think I will be boring and work on my resume and cover letter some more. Such is life on the job market!

I noticed you ran through your HHG. I am a beginning runnner (about a year) and have been fighting groin pain for awhile now. When do you decide to stop, and when do you run through? By the way, your blog is well written-I get motivated to run by reading it.
