Valentine's Day comes early

Alison managed to run way longer around the indoor track yesterday than I hope ever to, but I decided to join her for a few miles today just because many of the sidewalks still aren't clear and my achilles/ankle bothers me when I have to jump into and off of snowbanks. The sun was out today and it wasn't windy like it was yesterday, so the run up to the track was much more comfortable. Once we got to the track, we ran about four miles. It wasn't fast, but it felt harder than just running outside because we were so aware of our pace (at least that's why I think it felt harder!) Running around an indoor track beats running on a treadmill, but it is still pretty boring. Once we move out of New England I will not have the luxury of having access to such a nice facility (or any indoor track at all, for that matter) so I should count my blessings.

After class today I went to the gym to do my usual biking and lifting. I saw a couple of the track girls who are either injured or taking the week to cross-train because it is in between indoor and outdoor seasons (you have to have qualified to run in the championship meets for indoor.) I didn't have time to go to practice tonight because I was meeting Matt to go to dinner. We decided to celebrate Valentine's Day tonight instead of tomorrow since it is track night tomorrow (and because going to dinner on holidays like V-Day is always overpriced.) We went to a cozy bistro in the South End whose chef had done a demonstration meal at Sloan that Matt had attended. He was impressed then and we had an enjoyable dinner tonight as well. But the best part of the night was when we got home and found out that someone from our apartment building's management company had found my diamond earring that I had dropped down the sink drain on Friday night. We had been waiting all weekend for them to come and open the drain, but I had my doubts that it would be still down there. But thankfully it survived--hooray!

Maybe when you move away from New England, you won't need an indoor track. I'm glad the earring was retrieved and that you had a nice dinner! We went to the grocery store, which is almost as romantic.

I hope to see you tonight, though it's possible that I'll be late.
