Return to Rock Creek Park
I had a bad feeling about this morning's run when I woke up. I was dreading it because it was less than 12 hours ago that I had finished that rather long track workout. But I decided to run one of my favorite (hilly) Rock Creek Park loops in the hope that the beauty of the scenery would make me forget how tired and sore I was.
No such luck--it was definitely one of my crappiest runs in a while. The weather was typical for Washington winter--mid-40s and predicted to get to 55 later in the day. As much as I bitch about "warm" weather, that is definitely good running weather. But I felt stiff and sore from the first steps I took and never really found a rhythm. I also had a strange cramp in my side which hurt even more going downhill. I must have pulled a muscle there again. It bothered me during the whole run. The knee on the same side as Monday's ankle injury was also hurting a little. The swelling is gone and my ankle doesn't hurt anymore unless I press on a very specific area or stand in a way that puts pressure on it, but I must be compensating a little. Or maybe I was earlier in the week. In any case, I had hoped to get in closer to 10 miles today rather than the 7.5 (or so) that I did, but my body was protesting. I thought about running a bit more later, but I decided to bike and lift instead because I want to feel better on the rest of the runs I do here in DC!
I had lunch with an old running buddy who is now a mom with a one-and-a-half-year-old (that's probably too many hyphens, but oh well.) It is truly amazing how much bigger this kid has gotten since I saw him last in July--wow! He is a cutie and was fairly well-behaved during lunch. We ate quickly so when he started to act up, we could get the check. We took a walk afterwards and it almost felt like spring. I'm glad I got to spend some time with them!
Tonight I met my sister-in-law at the gym and then we grabbed some Thai food to bring back to her place. We had planned to watch "The O.C." (my first time) but it wasn't on so we put something else on and had some sisterly bonding time. It was a lot of fun. Now I'm back at the hotel waiting for Matt to get home from a poker game with some of his old buddies so I can hear about his day. I hope he gets home before I fall asleep!
