Workout switcheroo
Since today was Rosh Hashanah and my family is in town (traditionally we used to come to go to services with my grandparents but now my family comes just to eat and celebrate the New Year) I knew it would be easier to switch track days this week. So I just did a regular run today and Mary and I are going to attempt some tempo miles at the track tomorrow morning. I still feel my sore throat and I have a hint of a cough, so I'm a little worried but I'll do my best.
This morning was an early one--I ran to Alison's to meet her and both of us had our head lamps on. It was a good thing, too, because it was dark for probably three-quarters of our run, and misty too. She picked the route today (at my request) so I'm not entirely sure where we went but I know we followed the Mystic River for a lot of it. I felt decent--definitely better than yesterday and I think I've finally found a way to get to my psoas with the foam roller. It's not something I feel comfortable doing in public, but that's the beauty of having a foam roller in your own home!
I had one class to go to this morning and then I met some friends at one of the places that Harvard was holding Rosh Hashanah services. The traditional sermon/speech was given by a famous economist, Jeffrey Sachs, who left Harvard not too long ago for Columbia. He spoke mainly about the importance of giving donations of money and time to groups of people in the world who are suffering without making headlines (i.e. the millions of starving children in Africa.) It was pretty interesting and then they opened it up to questions, so that was neat to hear too. The president of Harvard was there too and every time I happened to look over at him he looked bored and restless! I thought that was funny.
I spent the rest of the afternoon and early evening hanging out at my grandparents' house with my family and some family friends we celebrate with every year. After eating a huge midday meal, a bunch of us took a walk that was well-needed. Matt had classes until later in the afternoon but he came over when he was done, just in time for dessert! Now we're back home doing work as another day comes to a close.
