Good weather for a longer workout

I must say a quick thank you to the weather gods who have almost made me forget about my suffering earlier this summer. Oh, I'm sure that we'll have another couple of runs of humid days, but for now, I'm enjoying myself.

Anyway...I was only running a few miles this morning so I didn't mind being on my own, but about a mile into the run, I heard someone call my name. It was this guy I ran with a couple of times last fall; he is a grad student at MIT and had recognized me from DC, where he was in the same club I was. He moved up to my neighborhood a couple of weeks ago so I'm sure I will see him again. He didn't have a set route so he ran with me back to my apartment. It was nice to have unexpected company.

Today I went to school to "register"--which really just meant picking up a new ID card--and have lunch with someone. I tried to go to the bookstore but it was filled with Harvard Med students. Too scary for me to wade through. Who needs books the first week of class, anyway?

Tonight I dragged Mary with me to the track, even though she ran the Cape Ann 25K yesterday. (She ran pretty easy, but still.) We ran up to the track and got there just in time for the start of the workout. It was an interesting one--2 x 2 miles, the first one at "marathon pace" (30 seconds slower than tempo pace) and the second one at tempo pace. There weren't too many people there tonight so it was very spread out. Mary and I stuck together for the first one and managed to run comfortably, but not easy. My legs felt springier than I expected. For the second one, I set my sights on another woman I sometimes run with and caught her on the 6th lap. I ran about 80 seconds faster for the second 2 mile, but it still felt under control. I was very happy with it.

OK, I gotta run, it's Matt's b-day and I'm trying to balance running and life (again)!
